Introduction

 Hi Everyone! 

My name is Hannah Moross and I am earning my masters in elementary education from Regis University! Last year, I served as a student success coach through City Year Denver,  and my experience through that program motivated me to be a teacher. I come from a privileged educational background, and realizing the inequities that exist in our current education system inspired me to pursue a masters in elementary education, so I could best serve my future students. 

Throughout this course, there are many things that I hope to gain so I can grow as an educator. I really want to work on identifying standards and creating lesson objectives that match those standards- this will help me teach any subject and a skill that I will hold with me throughout my career as a teacher. Another aspect that I hope to gain from this class is how to create inclusive science and social studies lessons that can meet all students needs, while keeping them engaged in the content. I believe that I will learn these skills through the frameworks, methodologies, and inquiry based learning methods that I will be taught throughout this course. Learning more about these aspects will not only strengthen my instruction in science and social studies lessons, but also I can translate the skills that I learn to other subject areas. 

The school that I am currently serving at is a title 1 school in Denver, Colorado.  I am student teaching in a 1st grade classroom, and 17 students are in the class. 4 of the students are on IEPs, 3 of the students receive special education services for academic needs and 1 student receives special education services for speech and language development. Also, there are 4 english language learners in the classroom. The classroom teacher has been teaching for 12 years, and cultivates an engaging, inclusive, and safe environment for students within the classroom. She has been working at this school for 7 years, and has taught many of the students siblings and has strong relationships with their families. 

Last but not least, here is a picture of me hiking in the mountains this summer! I am originally from Florida- where there is little to non-hiking- so I enjoy going hiking as much as possible in the summer!
